"Passion" is defined as a strong and barely controllable emotion. Have you felt that before about a cause? Whether you were marching in a rally, volunteering for an organization, working on a project or studying something you felt strongly about in school you have likely discovered over the years what it means to be passionate about something!
Throughout our lives we are always searching for deeper meaning and depth. We are seeking to serve a greater purpose and leave a mark on the world in our own unique way. Sometimes it takes us years to discover a cause and purpose we are passionate about. Others of us are blessed to know what that is at a young age. Regardless of when we discover what puts fire in our bones, we each want to be a part of something that builds and lifts. If you haven't discovered what your passion is, I hope to direct you to some awesome places where you might find it!
As a career I am going into nonprofit volunteer management so over the past few months I have been researching and volunteering for various nonprofits and learning about the missions they promote. I have been able to take a closer look at what fuels these groups and the good that they do! It has been incredible to see how passionate the administration, employees, and volunteers feel about their work to bless lives.
Here are various Utah nonprofits that are doing so much good:
Rising Star is a nonprofit that focuses on empowering people that live in leprocy colonies in India. This organization has an ambassador program that spreads awareness about many families still affected by leprocy and how we can help them heal and re-enter society.
Make a Wish foundation is also amazing in that they bless the lives of thousands of children affected by illness. The volunteers have the amazing opportunity to meet the families and bestow gifts to these kids.
Community Action Services serves thousands of people in Utah County. They have a massive food bank and many volunteers that fill the grocery carts of many needy families each day.
Food and Care Coalition works with many homeless and low-income individuals to help them get back on their feet and re-enter society. They provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner to these people and provide high quality services.
A Child's Hope Foundation partners with three orphanages in Mexico to provide them with volunteers to teach and serve the children. Every Summer they have a Summer camp where volunteers can teach special skills to the kids.
Good Samaritan Foundation is a nonprofit that serves the refugees in Utah. They have programs to teach English and financial skills. They have a food bank as well that meets needs of refugees.
HELP International plans trips throughout the year to various countries. They provide opportunities for volunteers to do humanitarian projects that bless so many lives around the world.
Big Brother Big Sister works with at-risk youth. This is a mentoring program that pairs trustworthy adults in the area with these youth to guide and mentor them as they make important decisions.
Operation Underground Railroad promotes awareness about the impact of sex-trafficking in the world today. They are consistently planning operations to save children from sex-trafficking and rehabilitating them.
OSSO (Orphanage support services organization) works with orphanages in Ecuador and Cambodia. While serving at these orphanages, volunteers can serve and come to love the children of these cultures and mentor them.
HEFY (Humanitarian Experience for youth) creates opportunities for youth to serve and do humanitarian work in other countries. Young adult volunteers can lead these youth in discovering culture and learning to love the people.
These are only a few of the many incredible Utah nonprofits that work to serve others and build the world we live in. I hope that you may discover volunteer opportunities with nonprofits that exist in your area and find one that ignites a passion within you! I promise that if you do you will find that your life is more full, you will feel you are truly making
a difference and that you are leaving your mark on the world.
