Finding joy by keeping perspective

There are so many distractions in our lives. It seems like we have a never-ending list of things to do, deadlines to meet, and obligations to fulfill and it is easy to feel overwhelmed at times! I know that for myself, this week will be one of stressful final exams and projects! With life pulling us all in different directions it is so easy to lose sight of what matters most. If you were to take out a sheet of paper and write the top ten things that matter most to you in your life, what would they be? Are you prioritizing them?

Something that has always helped calm my fears and brought me peace is when I strive to maintain an eternal perspective. As we consistently remember why we are here on earth, we begin to see the world more clearly. It is almost as if we put on glasses and see life through a whole different lens, one that can filter out the distractions.

This past week I was getting very bogged down with life and I was feeling a little down. I decided to go to the temple which once again restored my ability to see very distinctly what I was focusing on too much and what the Lord wanted me to change. I started to feel the peace of the spirit and joy again after that adjustment of my perspective.

The whole purpose of why we take the sacrament every week, read our scriptures daily and say our prayers is to continually put on those "glasses" and remember what matters most! This week may we strive to see our lives through heaven's eyes!

Challenge: Write down the top ten things/people in your life right now. Review your list and see what may not matter as much and what could use more of your attention! Pray each day this week for eyes to see your life through an eternal perspective!
