In life there is a lot of Eat, work, sleep, repeat! It can be full of long, hard-working days where we get home exhausted only to have more tasks on the never-ending list of things to do. The joy in life can easily be sucked out of it if we allow this monotonous cycle to take over and become our normal. We weren't put on this earth to work ourselves to death until we are dead! We were put on this earth to have joy!
If it has been a few days since you have had a good laugh or done something that brings you a little excitement, then maybe you are also getting trapped in the repetitiousness! Sometimes you need someone to tell you that it is okay to relax and enjoy the ride of life! The one regret I have about my mission is that I worked so hard, but I didn't have fun! If you are not having fun in your life, then something needs to change!
So, how can we worry about having more fun when there are always so many things we have to do? Sometimes it is important to slow down a little bit! Think about what things make you happy and plan some time in your schedule to do them!
For example, I absolutely LOVE instructing country dance at BYU-Idaho! It helps me have a TON of fun every Wednesday night and breaks up the fast-paced business of the rest of the week! It acts almost like therapy to relax me and lighten my spirit in the middle of the week! I also love to go on fun adventures with friends on the weekends whether it is in the mountains outside, floating a river, or going down to an amusement park! Adding some plans like these can help one feel excitement for the future and sometimes adds some zest to life!
I can almost hear some of you saying "I literally have no time for those kinds of activities. I am lucky if I can even get a little break!" In response to that I say that you can have fun while doing any activity! Working on homework I always like to blast some good music and then take breaks here and there to call friends or family! During different jobs I have had, my favorite ones have consisted of much laughter and fun talking to co-workers! I have the belief that you can make almost any activity a fun experience :)
When I think of fun and laughter, I think of my 3 yr old little brother! Life for him right now is discovering new things every day and finding joy in the simple things of life! We can find that same excitement in zeal for life whether we are 3, 39, 72, or 102 years old! We just have to look for it and create it!!!
Challenge: Ask yourself honestly...am I having fun and enjoyment in my life? What can I do this week to smile and enjoy life more?
